Don’t Miss the Anticipated Open House/Dance with Peter Fernandez (former lead singer of COKE and The Antiques)

by Frank Prieto on October 17, 2011

I met Peter Fernandez for the first time on March 28, 2009 at Alcazaba Night Club. I was introduced to Peter by none other than Frankie B (Frank Batista.) You see, Frank and Peter both sang lead with two of the most recognized local Miami bands of the 70’s – The Antiques and Coke. Frankie B with the Antiques and Peter with Coke. As life has it, Peter later ended up singing lead with the Antiques and yes, you guessed right – Frankie B with Coke.

That Alcazaba evening was a special night. Not only did Peter Fernandez, Frank Batista and Luis Serrano (formerly Miami Sound Machine) perform – but we also got to see Frankie Marcos and the legendary Carlos Oliva share the stage for a great jam session.

Soon after that, the talk started about how nice it would be to reunite the Miami Open House bands of the 70’s again. The following month on April 25th there was a high school alumni dance at Immaculate-LaSalle High School. That’s when the whole thing started picking up steam. The buzz kept building about bringing back the Open Houses and reuniting the bands.

Then seven months later on December 11th, an unprecedented event took place at Miami’s Club Renaissance. The first band to reunite and bring back the Open Houses – Mantrap – packed the house and as they say in the movies, the rest is history. Soon after other bands followed and we’ve had a nice run of great Open House events.

The next anticipated Open House event is taking place on November 25th featuring Peter Fernandez with the band VIVA (Paul, Heppi, Julio, Kookie – plus Mike Suman’s horn section and great percussionist Robert Sanchez.)

As the former lead singer of Coke and The Antiques, Peter will be performing many of the songs we cherish from the Open House era and he promises this to be a night to remember.

Joe Electro

The Antiques had the best light show in town. Joe Electro was the man behind it – and he’ll be there setting the mood with his fabulous light spectacle.
